WWII Foundation Documentary
6/18 - 6/30 2024
For two weeks in June, I joined the World War II Foundation in Germany and Austria as a production assistant for their documentaries, "Residue Evil: Legacies of Nazism," "Dachau: Our Stories," and "Castle of Horrors: Nazi Genocide at Hartheim."
Being able to travel out of the country for the first time was amazing as is, but doing so in a way that helped me further my career made it even better. It was a truly eye opening and rewarding experience.
As a PA, I gained experience by shadowing Jim Karpeichik (Director of Photography), and Tim Gray (Producer and Director), and learned the steps they take to produce their films for PBS viewing. I was entrusted with one of Jim's cameras to get b-roll footage while in Berchtesgaden, and have worked with him frequently since returning home to receive feedback on the content I have edited from the trip.
"A Student's Perspective: Filming on Location with The WWII Foundation" is embedded below, and can be found on the Foundation's website as well.
